LL-37 is the only cathelicidin found in humans. It is cleaved from the hCAP-18 precursor and forms an amphipathic alpha-helix that disrupts bacterial membranes. Beyond direct antimicrobial activity, laboratory studies show it modulates immune-cell chemotaxis, neutralises lipopolysaccharide and influences wound re-epithelialisation. It is widely used in biofilm, keratinocyte and macrophage research.
